Rain Magus by DarkeAOU Rain Magus by DarkeAOU
This is my entry for the Seventh Sanctum Characters - EXTREME! contest. (Generator Results are below the description.)

If you saw the teaser, chances are that you've already seen most of this picture. I'm submitting it now because, as much as I want you to see the finished piece, it's not going to be done in time for the contest. And because I like Rain's design more anyway, and his half of the picture is a) done, and b) not currently being eaten by my Mom's Photoshop, I figured I might as well submit him, at least. You'll get the completed picture next week, once I have access to my own computer again.

This is my character Rain Magus, one of the main characters from The Mage of Gates: Despair, which will become available for reading in my LJ as it's written (I'll also add links in my DevArt journal whenever I finish a chapter). It's a story about a terminally ill mage and the vampire who is (literally) his shadow, and their quest to separate their fates so that the vampire doesn't die with him.

For all wondering, yes, Rain does indeed use both tridents simultaneously. Despite being a mage, his spellcasting ability is very slow. These days, his magic is mostly limited to "gating" him and Law between realms.

Rain Magus
Fangirl Fantasy Generator - The kind mage. His amber eyes are always looking at painful memories. His hair is the color of valuable emeralds. He has a rather youthful face. His imaginative outfits display his lean build.

Disease Generator

Grave Sickness. Rain actually caught this one on his own. It's the result of overuse of necromancer magic, resulting in an anemia-like illness that decreases the level of life-giving energy in the blood. And since Rain is the only person that Law Magusshadow can feed from, this is a very bad thing. It's a terminal illness.

Zombie's Melancholy. Rain caught this as a result of poison, after drinking Unholy Necromancer's Revenge to obtain the Damned Phylactery of Shadows. One of the side-effects is that it rapidly drains magic ability. For this reason, Rain is quickly on his way to becoming an alcoholic, consuming far too much Magic Breeze to make up for it. It's a terminal illness.

Magical Style

This magical style focuses on both blood and emotions. This style of magic requires a natural aptitude.

Quest Items

Black Oath Trident. Though you can barely see it in this picture, it's the dark red forked thing next to Rain's foot. It's actually made out of his blood, and both he and the trident were born at the same time (much to the shock of his mother, I'm sure). It is the symbol of his connection to the vampire Law Magusshadow, and is thus something of a cursed item that he is unable to abandon.

Damned Phylactery of Shadows. Because it's a picture of Rain's back view, you can barely see it, but it's that band thing around Rain's arm. If Rain had decided to face the other way, you'd have a better view of it. It's an item that Rain and Law managed to obtain after a long, gruesome journey that ended with Rain being poisoned.

Trident of Pain. The only quest item that you can actually see! The reddish gem on it is actually a "mirror" that shows you your greatest sadness. However, the only person who can even touch the trident without collapsing into a heap, screaming your lungs out in agony is Rain, who has already experienced ultimate suffering. It's rare to see him without this trident in his hands, and he is often seen looking into the mirror.

BONUS GENERATORS! from nine.frenchboys
Clothing Style Generator

These people's clothes are in a airy style, mostly made of linen or silk in vivid reds and blues; trailing skirts and short capes are prevalent.

Fantasy Outfit Generator

This is a singlet made of blue silk and patterned with runes in crimson. Because it's a back view, you can't see the runes on Rain's singlet. But they are there! All three runes also appear on his leg, in the same order.

He looks so cute! The colors are great and they suit him. To be honest, he looks like a "Kingdom Hearts" character, and that's in a good way. I'm not trying to insult anybody but this is great.

I don't especially mind the comparison. :)

In all honesty, I was trying to "modernize" his outfit after hitting a historical clothing generator. The inspiration for the leg coverings (I still don't know how to describe them now) wasn't chaps or waders, like Riku tended to wear, but from an actual pair of pants in the How to Draw Manga: Costume Encyclopedia Volume 1, Everyday Fashion. Specifically, the "pants with pass-through pockets" on page 45.

I eventually split them in half, stuck cut-off shorts underneath, and gave him that pair of boots after a long debate, listening with only half an ear as Rain and Law bickered in the background.

"What kind of necromancer wears cut-offs, are you absolutely out of your mind?"
"Oh, shut up. It's not like anyone ever expects a necromancer to be respectable in the first place."
"And what about that cape you always wear. You look like an idiot in that getup."
"Come on. You know as well as I do, all mages wear capes."
"So you're not respectable enough to wear actual pants, but you'll wear that blasted cape?"

*sigh* Those two still fight like an old married couple.

Glad you liked the picture, though. :) Do you think that you're going to stick around to read the actual story behind them as well? It'll be a lot of fun. :aww:

Wow, I have that book, too. I just don't know how to use it properly...>>; In fact, I have a lot of volumes of "How to Draw books". xD

Arcana: *watches Rain and Law argue* They DO argue like a married couple. --;
